“Children are not things to be molded, but are people to be unfolded.”
~ Jess Lair
Are you feeling helpless as a parent? Is your child’s behavior causing problems at home and at school? Is your child feeling sad, angry, or show symptoms of withdrawal?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then I may be able to help you.
The beginning stage of my work with children is working with the parent or guardian to understand together what is getting in the way of your child’s progress. For children ages 3-11, play therapy is used. Play therapy is a way for children to explore their lives and voluntarily analyze their suppressed thoughts and emotions. Therapeutic play usually takes place in a safe, comfortable playroom, where very few rules are set, recommending free expression and allowing the therapist to observe the child’s choices and decisions through their own style of play.
The main goal of Play therapy is to assist the child in learning to express themselves in a healthier manner, become more appreciative and understanding, and identify new and more positive ways to solve problems as well as independently make decisions. This type of therapy is appropriate for children whom are currently enduring or have witnessed stressful situations in their lives, such as serious illness, domestic abuse, abuse, trauma, family instabilities, or an uncomfortable adjustment in their environment.
In addition, play therapy can help children with school issues, social problems, developmental or learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, anxiety, depression, grief, attention-deficit disorders or anger.
